PĀNUI PĀPĀHO MEDIA RELEASE: Christchurch Symphony Orchestra

Inclusive dance company Jolt will be joining the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra on stage in a performance of Max Richter’s The Seasons, a reimagination of Vivaldi’s masterpiece.

This is the first time that the orchestra has collaborated with Jolt in a performance within the CSO main stage concert season. “We have, for many years, partnered with Jolt through our Community Engagement Programme and have been exploring opportunities in which we can bring this altogether through one of our concert offerings,” said CSO Chief Executive Gretchen La Roche. “Vivaldi’s Four Seasons is instantly recognisable to a lot of people and Max Richter’s exquisite interpretation, combined with the creativity and energy of Jolt’s dancers, just adds another layer and allows audiences to experience something they already know in a completely new way.”

Performing as both soloist and director is CSO Concertmaster Martin Riseley and 26 dancers from Jolt will be interpreting the music through movement live on stage.

“When I first listened to The Seasons, I was struck by the storytelling and joy in the music,” said Jolt founder and Artistic Director Lyn Cotton. “It’s incredibly rich and evocative, creating both a sensory landscape and a journey that is very human. The opportunity to work with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra – to respond to this landscape through dance – is incredibly exciting.”

The Seasons will have three performances in the James Hay Theatre, June 25-26. Tickets are available from Eventfinda.co.nz.
