Soren Lane’s art is as eclectic as the equipment he uses to make them. Discover what this Pablos Art Studios artist uses to make his art so very, very him.

Golden Artist Colours: Golden Fluid Acrylics (Phthalo Blue)

I’ve been using them for ages and they’re really neat because you can get all these fancy effects with very little paint usage - I still own a bottle I bought over ten years ago. Phthalo Blue is one of my favourite shades.

Schmincke Horadam Watercolours

Whenever I use these watercolours, they always come out really strong and vibrant.

Kuretake Watercolour Brush

This Japanese brand specialises in a lot of calligraphy-based art. This one is particularly good for comics. When I use it, it comes to a lovely point on paper while still holding a decent amount of watercolour or ink. An all-round versatile brush that feels good to use.

Faber-Castell Polychromos Pencils

I had gone off coloured pencils for a long time because the ones I used before where Prismacolour Pencils, and while they had beautiful colour pay-off the leads would break repeatedly when you tried to sharpen them. This drove me bonkers. But the Polychromos Pencils have a really fine point that doesn’t easily break.  I use them instead of graphite - graphite smudges too easily.

Jo Sonja's Flow Medium

I went for ages without using flow medium because I couldn’t find it anywhere in the art shops, but then I found this at Spotlight of all places. So what it’s supposed to do is thin down paint out of a tube, so that you can do all sorts of things like make crisp lines or apply a really flat coat of paint. What’s really interesting is when you mix it with fluid acrylics; the layer of paint will start to separate and it beads up to an interesting pattern effect based on the texture underneath it.
