Artsenta presents Metamorphosis, an exhibition of ceramic works created over the past 12 months by a small but dedicated group of Artsenta artists.
“A range of different firing processes and surface treatments have been explored,” art tutor Greta Doo says. “Artists have been involved in the whole process of making the work and setting up the exhibition. This show features a wonderful variety of work and it’s great to be able to share it with the wider community. For emerging artists, having your work shown in a high-profile location like this is very exciting for everyone involved.”
The title of the show refers to the transformative nature of ceramics and the firing process but also to the development of the artists themselves.
“Creativity is really important to me. It helps me stay well,” says Christine Philp, one of the artists in the show. “Places like Artsenta are essential for people in the mental health community as they provide a safe space to develop new skills and take on new opportunities. Doing this sort of thing helps build your confidence.”
Artsenta is a community based art studio for people who use mental health services that has been operating in Dunedin for over 30 years.
