If you’re someone that happens to have grown up with a sibling, or maybe you didn’t grow up with them, but they still feature in your life somehow, then you’ll understand the peculiar and nuanced relationship storm that exists within this universe of "siblingdom".
And when a sibling is a person with a disability, this universe becomes even more nuanced. What are the orbits, gravitational laws, shooting stars and physics of this universe?
"Siblings" is a multi-layered theatre piece directed by Pelenakeke Brown and Associate Director Barnie Duncan, featuring a cast of four tāngata whaikaha/disabled performers exploring sibling relationships, disability, agency and care. Devised through talanoa, games and access as a creative prompt.
Beautiful, funny, profound and universal, this work is proudly premiering at Te Pou Theatre after a three-and-a-half year incubation period. With thanks to Creative New Zealand and Foundation North, and in-kind support from Auckland Council. With acknowledgement to Flock Charitable Trust for their support in the development season of Siblings.
