The Chalkboard Hand, from 17 April to 8 June, features Māpura Studios artists with divergent and performative drawing practices. The artists are Min Ji Baik, Trevor Bull, Harish Harish, Madeleine Wilson, Avtar Singh, Rene Astle and Michael Pere.
Please join Māpura Studios for its opening event: Tuesday 29 April 5.30 – 7.30pm. The exhibition presents drawing as both a trace of an innovative, fluid creative process and an act of world-building - a means of aligning the external world with the lived experiences of artists whose perspectives often challenge neurotypical norms. It captures the essence of drawing as a performative act, one that re-orders the world through movement, memory and mark-making to align with the artist’s lived experience.
This exhibition expands the boundaries of social memory, world-building, and the interplay between cultural consumption, reading and writing.
With this exhibition, audiences are invited to consider otherness not as a limitation but as a powerful, generative space for creativity and transformation.
