Arts Access Aotearoa movie fundraiser
16 November 2015
Arts Access Aotearoa’s movie fundraiser on Wednesday 25 November will feature the New Zealand premiere of a short film about Hutt City ceramic artist Robert Rapson, followed by the main feature film, The Bélier Family - a funny, feel-good, French movie (with English subtitles) about growing up, leaving home and being the only hearing person in a Deaf family.
To be held at the Penthouse Cinema in Brooklyn, Wellington, starting at 8pm, the event is a chance to see two great movies - at the same time supporting Arts Access Aotearoa’s work in increasing access to the arts for everyone in New Zealand.
In Leonardo Guerchmann's 12-minute film, called Robert Rapson: Outsider Artist, the artist shares his love of sailing ships and his creative process.
In The Bélier Family, a box-office comedy smash hit in France, Paula, 16, is the only hearing person in a Deaf family and plays an essential role in running the family dairy farm. One day, a music teacher discovers Paula’s gift for singing and encourages her to participate in a prestigious singing contest in Paris, which will secure her a career and college degree. However, this would mean leaving her family and taking her first steps towards adulthood. For her parents, Paula is their mouth and ears. Would they cope without her? This is a special preview of The Bélier Family, which will open for general release in Wellington on Boxing Day.
