Cross Tasman connection

2 December, 2010 Tasmania's Second Echo Ensemble is coming New Zealand next year to perform at the Tempo Dance Festival in Auckland, The Body Festival in Christchurch and spend one week in residency with integrated dance company Touch Compass.

Jointly managed by Cosmos Recreation Services and The Tasmanian Theatre Company, the ensemble provides a creative environment for young people with intellectual disabilities to work in a professional environment with other young theatre artists, experienced directors and designers.

Using gestural movement and voice to explore emotional and energetic territory that is both universal and personal, it is the only integrated theatre and dance ensemble of its type in Tasmania.

Set to tour New Zealand in 2011, 'The Company I Keep' is the creation of Finegan Kruckemeyer.

Blending dance and voice, gesture and projected video image, the performance takes the audience on a 50 minute journey through the sensations and emotions that we share when we dress for a first date, prepare for a party, argue with parents or simply share a quiet moment with someone we care for.

"I was absolutely thrilled to hear our grant application was approved", said Anne McKinstray, manager of Cosmos Recreation Service.

"The opportunity for the ensemble to spend time with a highly successful and innovative company such as New Zealand's Touch Compass will provide invaluable learning and be a feather in the cap for this unique Tasmanian company that will allow a fantastic chance for cross-Tasman connections to be made."
