Get along to the Awesome Arts Access Auction
MEDIA RELEASE: Arts Access Aotearoa
10 November 2016
Luxury getaways to Taupo, New Plymouth, Auckland and the Wairarapa; dinner dates in fine restaurants; tickets to live performance; a quilt created by women prisoners; fabulous art; and a free landscape consultation are just a few of more than 40 items up for grabs at the annual Awesome Arts Access Auction, to be held at the CQ Hotels Wellington on Thursday 1 December.
Richard Benge, Executive Director, Arts Access Aotearoa, says the auction is a great opportunity to have some fun and also support the work the organisation does to increase access to the arts for everyone in Wellington and the rest of the country.
“This is our fourth auction and every year, people have a great time bidding on an array of items,” he says. “Watch this space to see the fabulous auction items we’ve got lined up this year.
“Individuals, businesses and arts organisations in the Cuba Quarter, Wellington and beyond are always extremely generous and we’re grateful to everyone who donates items for us to auction.”
The live auction will have a dozen items, ranging from weekend escape packages to cool, quirky art and a signed, framed Phoenix tee-shirt.
Items in the silent auction will include a gym membership; kete woven by prisoners; family tickets to children’s theatre; handwoven bags made in Bolivia - and much more
Free first drink and canapés
Along with a free first drink and canapés throughout the evening, live jazz will be performed by members of Rodger Fox’s Wellington Jazz Orchestra.
Auctioneer Peter Wedde of Peter Wedde Antiques in Kelburn has again volunteered his time to persuade the punters to increase their bids for a good cause.
As Richard Benge says in this year’s auction programme, “Everyone in New Zealand has the right to express themselves through creative pursuits; enjoy accessible live performances, museums and galleries; benefit economically from the arts; and contribute to their community through their art. Help support this cause and all the work Arts Access Aotearoa does to increase access to the arts.”
If you are unable to attend the Awesome Arts Access Auction, you may wish to make a donation to support Arts Access Aotearoa.
