Education and Research

This programme is about providing accurate information through relevant research and publications. This enhances Arts Access Aotearoa's ability to advocate for the sectors we work with.

This programme helps us achieve three of our strategic goals:

  • Increasing awareness in the wider community of the sectors we work with and their needs
  • Enhancing the availability of relevant research and publications for the communities that Arts Access Aotearoa works with
  • Building and maintaining strategic partnerships to make best use of Arts Access Aotearoa’s resources.

AAA Information Service

Arts Access Aotearoa gets a wide range of questions from the public, government organisations, businesses, community groups and individuals. This service provides up-to-date and accurate information about arts opportunities for marginalised individuals and communities.

Examples of queries that Arts Access Aotearoa receives are:

  • As a marginalised artist, where can I go to get funding for my arts project?
  • Where’s the nearest creative space for me to attend?
  • Where can I go to buy some artwork for my business?
  • I’m a refugee artist. Is there a place where I can go and work with other artists?
  • I work for a creative space. Where can I get information about the arts, health and wellbeing?

Arts for All publication

Creative New Zealand in association with Arts Access Aotearoa published Arts for all: opening doors to disabled people in December 2009. It is a practical guide aimed at mainstream artists and arts organisations, as well as venues, to encourage them to be more accessible and market their arts events to the disabled community – thereby building new audiences and gallery/museum visitors. The two organisations will be working with local government to provide workshops based on the publication and complementary online resources in April/May 2010.
