Audio described afternoon on Wellington waterfront

MEDIA RELEASE: Circa Theatre
22 March 2018
Circa Theatre and Te Papa will present an audio described afternoon on the Wellington waterfront on Sunday 8 April.

Te Papa will host an audio described art tour called Bones, Stones and Beginnings and starting at 2.30pm. Following on from this event, Circa Theatre will present a touch tour at 3.45pm and an audio described performance of its current production, the thriller called Switzerland by Joanna Murray-Smith starting at 4.30pm.

Circa is offering a special price of $38 to all members and guests of Blind Citizens New Zealand and the Blind Foundation.

Audio description is a narrated commentary for blind and low vision patrons that describes what’s happening on stage in between the dialogue or songs: for example, new scenes, settings, costume, body language, facial expression, movements across the stage and sight gags. An audio describer talks into a microphone to provide the commentary. This is transmitted to wireless receivers and headsets worn by the audience members. It does not affect hearing members of the audience.

About Switzerland

Celebrated crime writer Patricia Highsmith is living hidden away in the Swiss Alps and refusing to contact her publishers, who are urging her to write another in the bestselling Ripley series.

A mysterious young man appears unannounced. Will her love of fictional murders become a dangerous reality? What first appears to be a standard cat-and-mouse game soon becomes a dance to the death. Who is the cat and who is the mouse? And … who will make it out of Switzerland alive.

This play has been described as a sharp, gripping and sometimes very witty two-hander exploring the final chapter in the life of Patricia Highsmith – the writer of The Talented Mr Ripley, Strangers on a Train and Carol.
