Filling the basket with knowledge

The results of a survey of Arts For All Network members, conducted by Arts Access Aotearoa, together with feedback gathered throughout 2025, have shaped the Network's focus for 2026: growing knowledge together.

Members were asked about their accessibility work, the progress they made during 2025, the challenges they faced and the support they needed next. Although the number of survey responses was lower than hoped, the findings, combined with conversations held throughout the year, provide a clear picture of where the sector is heading.

The strongest message was that knowledge is the foundation of accessibility. Members consistently asked for practical guidance, opportunities to learn directly from Deaf and disabled people, and more chances to connect with others working towards the same goals.

In response, the Arts For All Network's 2026 programme places knowledge at its centre. New initiatives include expanded accessibility training, more online Q&A sessions with Deaf and disabled artists, practical drop-in learning sessions, increased regional visits and more opportunities for members to learn from one another.

A new monthly newsletter and improvements to online resources will also make it easier for members to access information throughout the year.

Our guiding whakataukī for 2026 is Whaiwhia te kete mātauranga – Fill the basket with knowledge. It reflects what members told us they need most: the confidence, understanding and practical skills to make accessibility part of everyday arts practice.
